Chia seeds are seeds from South and Central America which have great nutritional content despite their small size. A great deal of attention has been given to chia seeds over the last few years as a result of their nutritional composition and concentrated contents which include omega-3, protein and fibre.

Original Chia Aps. has been at the forefront of the campaign to licence chia seeds as a foodstuff over the last few years. In 2009 this culminated in chia seeds being licensed as a new food additive in Europe under the Directive concerning Novel Foods. The licence can be viewed here.
